What is World Down Syndrome Day?

Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition that happens when someone is born with three copies of chromosome 21 instead of two. Over the years people started to celebrate “3-21” or March 21^st as World Down Syndrome Day. In 2011 the UN declared March 21^st World Down Syndrome Day and since then over 90 countries have signed on and officially celebrate the day. In addition, several countries and states celebrate March as World Down Syndrome Month.
