On August 3, 2008, the Down Syndrome Educational Fund (in conjunction with Denver Options) celebrated diversity in the community and especially people with Down syndrome through the “Growing Seeds of Change” family fun day. The Denver Botanic Gardens turned into a garden of stories, with characters from Alice in WonderlandThe Cat in the Hat and Harry Potter. Special guests including former Denver Bronco Reggie Rivers, former Colorado First Lady Frances Owens and entertainer Hazel Miller read excerpts from beloved children’s books. Following these celebrity book readings, popular children’s band “Milkshake” performed at Mitchell Hall. Families enjoyed desserts, botanical treasure hunts, flowerpot painting, planting stations and face paintings.
