Summary: We are an educationally-focused strength-based interdisciplinary team. We believe that every area of a child’s development impacts future growth and progress cognitively as well as physically and our team evaluations determine what, if anything is happening that might interfere with the child’s ability to continue to maximize learning and/or overall progress. We also offer ongoing therapies, tutoring, counseling, after-school programs and camps for the local Down syndrome population weekly, year-long. An included VPK serves children with Down syndrome as well.

Mailman Center for Child Development, Miami, FL

Summary: We are one of the top 10 programs in the United States for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and chronic illness. The Mailman Center is located on the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center campus and annually serves over 19,000 children, youths, and their families. The staff at the Center give special care to identifying the concerns and priorities of each individual and family. The family and professional staff then work closely to decide which of those services would best meet all family members’ needs. Although the Mailman Center is not Down syndrome-specific, the center addresses concerns of individuals with developmental disabilities and children with special health care needs through research, clinical service, training for professionals, parental workshops and advocacy.
