Summary: Developmental Pediatrics at CHKD provides consultations for the evaluation, diagnosis and management of children with developmental disabilities. Our program has been designated as a Child Development Center through the Virginia Department of Health. We tailor each child’s treatment plan according to his or her unique needs. We may recommend a consultation with a developmental pediatrician, lab tests, or other services depending on your child’s assessment.

Summary: We work closely with a multi-disciplinary care team to diagnose and treat developmental problems in infants, children and teenagers. At UVA, we’ll connect you to community resources, including school intervention programs and social services agencies. See us for evaluations of your child’s growth in: Language, Motor skills, Cognitive abilities, Behavior, and Social development. Registered dietitians can help assess your child’s nutrition and diet needs. Our doctors also offer prenatal counseling to educate parents about the special needs of children with developmental disabilities.

Summary: The Developmental Pediatrics team at Inova Children’s has unique expertise in caring for children with impairments of typical brain function that often impact their behavior, memory, and ability to learn. These disorders often first appear in early childhood as cognitive, motor, social, and behavioral problems that affect daily life, including school and family. Developmental Pediatrics is a subspecialty of pediatrics and neurology but does not take the place of primary care for our patients. Patients should continue to receive care in their medical homes. When accepting new patients, we will start with patients up to the age of 16. We will follow existing patients through 22 years of age. The Developmental Pediatrics team is comprised of a board-certified neurodevelopmental pediatric specialist along with nurse practitioners and a clinical psychologist.
