Denver, CO, May 10, 2024<\/strong> –Last night the \u0997\u09cd\u09b2\u09cb\u09ac\u09be\u09b2 \u09a1\u09be\u0989\u09a8 \u09b8\u09bf\u09a8\u09a1\u09cd\u09b0\u09cb\u09ae \u09ab\u09be\u0989\u09a8\u09cd\u09a1\u09c7\u09b6\u09a8<\/a> (GLOBAL) held its sixth annual \u0997\u09cd\u09b0\u09b9\u09a3\u09af\u09cb\u0997\u09cd\u09af\u09a4\u09be \u0997\u09be\u09b2\u09be<\/em><\/a>, DC\u2019s largest fundraiser for people with Down syndrome, that raised $400,000 to support important research and medical care to improve the lives of those who happen to have Down syndrome. Representatives Richard Hudson <\/strong>(R-NC) and Lois Frankel<\/strong> (D-FL) received GLOBAL\u2019s highest honor, the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award, <\/em>and pledged their continued strong advocacy in Congress that makes an impact on the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt GLOBAL, we are working hard every day to elongate life and improve health outcomes for our loved ones with Down syndrome,\u201d says GLOBAL Co-Founder, President, and CEO, \u09ae\u09bf\u09b6\u09c7\u09b2 \u09b8\u09bf \u09b9\u09c1\u0987\u099f\u09c7\u09a8<\/strong>. \u201cLast night we brought together a room full of bi-partisan support  from Congress, NIH leadership, self-advocates with Down syndrome, and corporate leaders, all celebrating the impact of GLOBAL\u2019s work. The joy and excitement at our event and the tangible outcome of our work together is truly rewarding!\u201d<\/p>\n

Held at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC, the event was attended by GLOBAL awardee alum, Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers<\/strong> (R-WA) and her son, GLOBAL Ambassador \u0995\u09cb\u09b2 \u09b0\u099c\u09be\u09b0\u09cd\u09b8<\/strong>. Representative Rodgers\u2019 keynote speech deeply moved the audience. Her determination to pass a game-changing legacy bill, the \u09a1\u09bf\u0993\u09a8\u09cd\u09a1\u09cd\u09b0\u09be \u09a1\u09bf\u0995\u09cd\u09b8\u09a8 \u09aa\u09cd\u09b0\u0995\u09b2\u09cd\u09aa \u0986\u0987\u09a8 \u0985\u09a8\u09cd\u09a4\u09b0\u09cd\u09ad\u09c1\u0995\u09cd\u09a4 \u0995\u09b0\u09c7<\/a>, before her poignant retirement from Congress was an important feature of the evening. The bill will help ensure funding for Down syndrome research and medical care from the NIH for years to come.<\/p>\n

Celebrities passionate about the cause included Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum singer\/songwriter and actress Jordin Sparks<\/strong>; actor, author and public speaker \u09ab\u09cd\u09b0\u09be\u0999\u09cd\u0995 \u09b8\u09cd\u099f\u09bf\u09ab\u09c7\u09a8\u09b8<\/strong>; author and public speaker \u09a1\u09c7\u09ad\u09bf\u09a1 \u0987\u0997\u09be\u09a8<\/strong>; and award-winning correspondent for ABC News and anchor for ABC News LIVE Kyra Phillips <\/strong>and her daughter Sage Roberts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To recognize the transformative leadership of Representative Rosa DeLauro<\/strong> (D-CT), the GLOBAL Rosa DeLauro Advancement Award, with a post-secondary scholarship, was provided to Damani Tichawonna from Washington, DC<\/strong> as was the GLOBAL Tom Cole<\/strong> Advancement Award to Julia Greene<\/strong>. Representative Rosa DeLauro was on-hand to personally present both Advancement Awards to the deserving recipients, leaving the audience inspired to do even more for people with Down syndrome and their families.<\/p>\n

With the help of GLOBAL Ambassador Isla Eager<\/strong> and her family, \u0987\u09b0\u09bf\u09a8 \u09ac\u09c1\u0995 \u09ae\u09c1\u09b2\u09c7\u09a8<\/strong>, and co-chairs \u099c\u09c1\u09b2\u09bf \u09b0\u09bf\u0995\u09bf\u0993 <\/strong>\u098f\u09ac\u0982 \u0985\u09cd\u09af\u09be\u09ae\u09bf \u09ac\u09c7\u09b8\u09cd\u099f \u0989\u0987\u09b8<\/strong>, the inspirational gala attracted 300 attendees and raised $400,000 for GLOBAL\u2019s life-saving research and medical care. GLOBAL supports over 200 researchers on the Anschutz Medical Campus at the \u09a1\u09be\u0989\u09a8 \u09b8\u09bf\u09a8\u09a1\u09cd\u09b0\u09cb\u09ae\u09c7\u09b0 \u099c\u09a8\u09cd\u09af \u0995\u09cd\u09b0\u09a8\u09bf\u0995 \u0987\u09a8\u09b8\u09cd\u099f\u09bf\u099f\u09bf\u0989\u099f<\/a> and at the Alzheimer\u2019s and Cognition Center<\/a>, as well as  2,500 patients from 33 states and 10 countries at the \u09a1\u09be\u0989\u09a8 \u09b8\u09bf\u09a8\u09a1\u09cd\u09b0\u09cb\u09ae\u09c7\u09b0 \u099c\u09a8\u09cd\u09af \u0995\u09c7\u09a8\u09cd\u09a6\u09cd\u09b0<\/a>. For nearly two decades, Down syndrome was one of the least federally funded genetic conditions in the United States.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with Down syndrome enrich our world in unique ways,\u201d says Representative Hudson. \u201cGLOBAL is paving the way for people who are differently-abled so they can live their lives to their full potential with no barriers or bias or obstacles standing in their way. I am honored to support their efforts and to receive this award, and will continue advocating for policies that improve the lives of people with Down syndrome.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the end of the evening, Jordin Sparks<\/strong> wowed the audience not only with her beautiful voice but by connecting with fans and bringing self-advocates with Down syndrome on stage while performing an intimate, heartfelt performance of some of her biggest hits including \u201cNo Air\u201d and \u201cOne Step at a Time,\u201d <\/em>and  solo dancer Robert Wallop<\/strong> and inclusive dance troupe RhythmXpress<\/strong> delighted attendees with dance performances set to \u201cBones\u201d by Imagine Dragons, \u201cFirework\u201d by Katy Perry and \u201cFireball\u201d by Mini Pop Kids.<\/p>\n

Additional notables in attendance included Kim Owens<\/strong> from the National Down Syndrome Congress and Dria Law<\/strong> from the Down Syndrome Association of Southern New Jersey .<\/p>\n
