{"id":150163,"date":"2022-12-29T10:07:58","date_gmt":"2022-12-29T17:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.globaldownsyndrome.org\/?p=150163"},"modified":"2023-01-09T15:04:45","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T22:04:45","slug":"new-down-syndrome-resource-available-in-spanish-and-japanese","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.globaldownsyndrome.org\/ja\/new-down-syndrome-resource-available-in-spanish-and-japanese\/","title":{"rendered":"\u30b9\u30da\u30a4\u30f3\u8a9e\u3068\u65e5\u672c\u8a9e\u3067\u5229\u7528\u53ef\u80fd\u306a\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u30c0\u30a6\u30f3\u75c7\u30ea\u30bd\u30fc\u30b9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Global Down Syndrome Foundation, Centro UC S\u00ed<\/em><em>ndrome de Down and Japan Down Syndrome Association Join Forces to Translate &amp; Provide Online Access to the GLOBAL Adult Guideline<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Denver <\/strong>\u2013<strong>December 29, 2022<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaldownsyndrome.org\/ja\/\">Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GLOBAL)<\/a>, published a Spanish and Japanese version of the GLOBAL Medical Care Guidelines for Adults with Down Syndrome (\u201cGLOBAL Adult Guideline\u201d) in collaboration with the El Centro de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de S\u00edndrome de Down in Chile (Centro UC S\u00edndrome de Down or CUSD) and the Japan Down Syndrome Association (JDSA).<\/p>\n<p>The GLOBAL Adult Guideline is the first evidence-based guideline for adults with Down syndrome and was published in English in <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jama\/article-abstract\/2771907\"><em>JAMA<\/em><\/a>\u305d\u306e <em>Journal of American Medical Association<\/em>,&nbsp;in 2020. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaldownsyndrome.org\/ja\/%e6%88%90%e4%ba%ba%e5%8c%bb%e7%99%82%e3%82%ac%e3%82%a4%e3%83%89%e3%83%a9%e3%82%a4%e3%83%b3\/\">guideline authors<\/a> include the directors of the largest adult Down syndrome clinics in the US, and the current nine medical topics are: behavior, dementia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, osteoporosis, atlantoaxial instability, thyroid disease, and celiac disease. GLOBAL is working to expand the topics to include sleep apnea, solid tumors, leukemia, vision\/eye care, and physical therapy and fitness.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 80-page guideline for medical professionals, GLOBAL has also published a much shorter family-friendly version, and toolkits that include easy to follow assessments for Celiac disease, Diabetes, Behavior, and annual check-ups.<\/p>\n<p>All of these resources for adults are now available in Spanish and Japanese at no cost on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaldownsyndrome.org\/ja\/%e6%88%90%e4%ba%ba%e5%8c%bb%e7%99%82%e3%82%ac%e3%82%a4%e3%83%89%e3%83%a9%e3%82%a4%e3%83%b3\/\">GLOBAL website,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/dsconnect.nih.gov\/resources.html\">DS-Connect\u00ae: The Down Syndrome Registry<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centroucdown.uc.cl\/\">CUSD website<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/japandownsyndromeassociation.org\/\">JDSA website<\/a>. The translations were possible in part due to a generous donation by GLOBAL Board Member and Colorado Rockies Owner, Charlie Monfort.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGLOBAL is pleased to be able to reach Spanish and Japanese speakers who have Down syndrome and their families in the U.S. in collaboration from the National Institutes of Health\/DS-Connect\u00ae,\u201d says Michelle Sie Whitten, President &amp; CEO of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. \u201cThe NIH\u2019s <em>Eunice Kennedy Shriver<\/em> National Institute of Child Health and Human Development has been supportive from the beginning. We are also deeply grateful for Dr. Macarena Lizama at CUSD and Dr. Hiroshi Tamai, President of JDSA, Dr. Chisen Takeuchi of the JDSA for helping to ensure this reaches hundreds of thousands of Spanish and Japanese speakers around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GLOBAL has worked with Congress since 2006 advocating for a trans-NIH Down syndrome research funding program and for increased funding. In December of 2010, GLOBAL and the NIH co-organized the first Down syndrome research conference with a focus on registries and biobanks. One important result was the establishment of <a href=\"https:\/\/dsconnect.nih.gov\/\">DS-Connect\u00ae: The Down Syndrome Registry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is so important for me and other people with Down syndrome to have this in Spanish,\u201d says Yadira M. Carrillo, a 27-year-old self-advocate and entrepreneur who happens to have Down syndrome. \u201cI need to know how to take care of myself as an adult!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeing the guideline in Spanish feels like GLOBAL values Spanish -speaking families like mine,\u201d said Yadira Carrillo, mother of a 27-year-old daughter who has Down syndrome. \u201cLanguage is a barrier some families face to receiving medical care and I know this will help so many people in the U.S. and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Chile, GLOBAL has been working closely with Dr. Lizama on many projects including creating the Spanish version of the GLOBAL Guideline and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaldownsyndrome.org\/covid-19\/\"><em>COVID-19 and Down Syndrome Resource<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Michelle, Bryn Gelaro and their team have accomplished in research and medical care is so important,\u201d says Dr. Macarena Lizama, Medical Director of the El Centro de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de S\u00edndrome de Down in Chile. \u201cWe are honored to collaborate with GLOBAL on this transformative resource and to improve medical equity, especially for Spanish-speaking countries where medical care access and basic resources for people with Down syndrome can be very scarce.
