Representatives Richard Hudson <\/strong>(R-NC) and Lois Frankel<\/strong> (D-FL) received GLOBAL\u2019s highest honor, the\u00a0\u041f\u0440\u0435\u043c\u0438\u044f \u041a\u0443\u0438\u043d\u0441\u0438 \u0414\u0436\u043e\u043d\u0441\u0430 \u0437\u0430 \u0438\u0441\u043a\u043b\u044e\u0447\u0438\u0442\u0435\u043b\u044c\u043d\u044b\u0435 \u0437\u0430\u0441\u043b\u0443\u0433\u0438,\u00a0<\/em>and pledged their continued strong advocacy in Congress that makes an impact on the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.<\/p>\n

Held at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, DC, the event was attended by GLOBAL awardee alum, Representative\u00a0Cathy McMorris Rodgers<\/strong>\u00a0(R-WA) and her son, GLOBAL Ambassador \u041a\u043e\u0443\u043b \u0420\u043e\u0434\u0436\u0435\u0440\u0441<\/strong>. Representative Rodgers\u2019 keynote speech deeply moved the audience. Her determination to pass a game-changing legacy bill, the \u0414\u0435\u041e\u043d\u0434\u0440\u0430 \u0414\u0438\u043a\u0441\u043e\u043d \u0417\u0430\u043a\u043e\u043d \u043e \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0435\u043a\u0442\u0435 INCLUDE<\/a>, before her poignant retirement from Congress was an important feature of the evening. The bill will help ensure funding for Down syndrome research and medical care from the NIH for years to come.<\/p>\n

Celebrities passionate about the cause included Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum singer\/songwriter and actress Jordin Sparks<\/strong>; actor, author and public speaker\u00a0\u0424\u0440\u044d\u043d\u043a \u0421\u0442\u0438\u0432\u0435\u043d\u0441<\/strong>; author and public speaker\u00a0\u0414\u044d\u0432\u0438\u0434 \u0418\u0433\u0430\u043d<\/strong>; and award-winning correspondent for ABC News and anchor for ABC News LIVE Kyra Phillips <\/strong>and her daughter Sage Roberts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To recognize the transformative leadership of Representative\u00a0Rosa DeLauro<\/strong>\u00a0(D-CT), the GLOBAL Rosa DeLauro Advancement Award, with a post-secondary scholarship, was provided to Damani Tichawonna from Washington, DC<\/strong> as was the GLOBAL Tom Cole<\/strong>\u00a0Advancement Award to Julia Greene<\/strong>. Representative Rosa DeLauro was on-hand to personally present both Advancement Awards to the deserving recipients, leaving the audience inspired to do even more for people with Down syndrome and their families.<\/p>\n

With the help of GLOBAL Ambassador\u00a0Isla Eager<\/strong>\u00a0and her family, \u042d\u0440\u0438\u043d \u0411\u0443\u043a \u041c\u0430\u043b\u043b\u0435\u043d<\/strong>, and co-chairs\u00a0\u0414\u0436\u0443\u043b\u0438 \u0420\u0438\u0447\u0447\u0438\u043e <\/strong>\u0438 \u042d\u043c\u0438 \u0411\u0435\u0441\u0442 \u0412\u0430\u0439\u0441<\/strong>, the inspirational gala attracted 300 attendees and raised $400,000 for GLOBAL\u2019s life-saving research and medical care. GLOBAL supports over 200 researchers on the Anschutz Medical Campus at the \u0418\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0438\u0442\u0443\u0442 \u0441\u0438\u043d\u0434\u0440\u043e\u043c\u0430 \u0414\u0430\u0443\u043d\u0430<\/a> and at the Alzheimer\u2019s and Cognition Center<\/a>, as well as\u00a0 2,500 patients from 33 states and 10 countries at the \u0426\u0435\u043d\u0442\u0440 \u0441\u0438\u043d\u0434\u0440\u043e\u043c\u0430 \u0414\u0430\u0443\u043d\u0430<\/a>. For nearly two decades, Down syndrome was one of the least federally funded genetic conditions in the United States.<\/p>\n
