People with Down syndrome deserve longer and healthier lives. Please join us in making that our future. Your gift can help make the difference!

With your support, we are truly delivering on elongating life and improving health outcomes:

  • Research: GLOBAL’s seed funding for the Crnic Institute and the Alzheimer’s & Cognition Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus has resulted in clinical trials and breakthrough research in inflammation and autoimmune disorders, regression disorder, growth hormone treatment, metabolism, cognition, Alzheimer’s, and more.
  • Medical Care: We have 14 full-time equivalent clinicians providing excellent medical care to over 2,200 children with Down syndrome from 33 states and 10 countries at Children’s Hospital Colorado and making progress on our adult pilot clinic at Denver Health.
  • GLOBAL Medical Care Guidelines for Adults with Down Syndrome©: We created the first evidence-based clinical care guidelines for adults with Down syndrome that was published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA). Since then, we have published a free family-friendly version with both versions now available in Spanish, Japanese and Italian!
  • GLOBAL’s Lobbying and Advocacy: Our leadership saw the Down syndrome research budget at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) increase $258 million over the last six years – We are grateful to our Congressional champions, friends at NIH, and self-advocates.

But, we still have much to do to deliver on our mission of longer, healthier lives for children and adults with Down syndrome. Thank you for your support and belief in GLOBAL and the AMAZING individuals with Down syndrome we serve!

Mission

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GLOBAL) is dedicated to significantly improving the lives of people with Down syndrome through RESEARCH, MEDICAL CARE, EDUCATION, and ADVOCACY.

GLOBAL is the largest non-profit in the U.S. working to save lives and dramatically improve health outcomes for people with Down syndrome. GLOBAL has established the first Down syndrome research institute supporting over 400 scientists that are now working on 4 groundbreaking clinical trials to help people with Down syndrome who also have Alzheimer’s, autoimmune conditions, and Down syndrome regression disorder. We also support over 2,400 patients with Down syndrome from 33 states and 10 countries with excellent medical care.

Working closely with Congress and the National Institutes of Health, GLOBAL is the lead advocacy organization in the U.S. for Down syndrome research and care. GLOBAL has a membership of over 100 Down syndrome organizations worldwide and is part of a network of Affiliates - the Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome, the Sie Center for Down Syndrome, and the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center - all on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

GLOBAL's widely circulated publications include the first-in-class clinical GLOBAL Medical Care Guidelines for Adults with Down Syndrome and its family-friendly version, Prenatal & Newborn Down Syndrome Information, and the award-winning Down Syndrome World magazine. GLOBAL also organizes the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show, the largest Down syndrome fundraiser in the world. Background Statement

The birth of Anna and John J. Sie's granddaughter, Sophia (who is now twenty and a sophomore at Regis University!), was the inspiration and catalyst for establishing the Global Down Syndrome Foundation in 2009. At the time, there was virtually no specialty pediatric medical care or research for Down syndrome in Colorado or in surrounding states.

In addition, the Sie family experienced many disturbing situations around the diagnosis, healthcare, and education of their granddaughter. Based on these experiences, the Sie's established the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome (Crnic Institute) and its medical care arm, the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at the Children's Hospital Colorado (Sie Center), and later the University of Colorado Alzheimer's and Cognition Center - all on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

GLOBAL is tasked with outreach and education that creates a pipeline of dedicated researchers, medical care patients, and informed government representatives. YOUR support helps us do this day in and day out and reminds us that we are making a difference and that we are appreciated.

THANK YOU for helping us create a brighter future for the awesome people with Down syndrome we serve!
