Academy and Grammy Award-winner Jamie Foxx and his sister DeOndra Dixon Help Launch Down Syndrome World during Down Syndrome Awareness Month
Global Down Syndrome Foundation Magazine Covers Groundbreaking Research, Medical Care, and Features about People with Down Syndrome
DENVER (October 23, 2014) – The Global Down Syndrome Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of Down Syndrome World, the first national magazine dedicated to covering important topics affecting people with Down syndrome, their families, friends and caregivers. The first issue of this quarterly magazine features: Jamie Foxx and DeOndra Dixon discussing sibling relationships, how Down syndrome research may lead to a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, states where people with Down syndrome are allowed to vote, the debate on oral motor therapy, and celebrity sightings such as royals Kate & William, singer Leona Lewis and actor Channing Tatum with self-advocates who have Down syndrome.
“This is a huge labor of love,” said Michelle Sie Whitten, executive director of Global Down Syndrome Foundation and Publisher/Editor of Down Syndrome World. “We believe this magazine can be a real game-changer for new parents, professionals and so many others. By presenting current facts and topical issues, we can present a world of both beauty and challenges. We hope each section of the magazine will resonate with our thoughtful and caring readers.”
The first issue of Down Syndrome World is timed to coincide with Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show. Participants in the fashion show include Jamie Foxx, Global Ambassador DeOndra Dixon, Alec Baldwin, Helen Hunt, Laura Dern, John C. McGinley, Beverly Johnson and self-advocate golfer Brad Hennefer.

Down Syndrome World is distributed quarterly in the United States via controlled circulation to over 5,000 government officials, doctors, nurses, genetic counselors and community leaders, as well as via annual basic, premium, corporate and Down syndrome organization memberships to Global Down Syndrome Foundation. Each level of annual membership includes four issues of Down Syndrome World and other valuable benefits.
