Introducing Global 2016 Ambassador Louis Rotella IV

Louis “Louie” Rotella IV—the charming boy who inspired his dad to create the celebrated story of acceptance The Little King and His Marshmallow Kingdom—will inspire an audience of 1,200 when he takes to the runway as the 2016 Ambassador at Global’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show on Saturday, November 12.
“‘Life with Louie’, that is the saying around our house,” says his mom, Jill Rotella. “Life with Louie is filled with joy, tears, laughter, Marshmallows, and lots of lessons in patience and humor. Our lives are better because of the journey that we travel with Louie! We will be proud and honored to be by Louie’s side during this next adventure on his journey as the 2016 Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show Ambassador!”
Each year, in addition to choosing 20 self-advocates to model in their fashion show, Global selects an ambassador who graces the front cover of their award-winning invitation. Ambassadors and their families are dedicated to garnering support for Global’s work towards significantly improving the lives of people with Down syndrome through research, medical care, education and advocacy.
Louie’s family owns and operates Rotella’s Italian Bakery Inc., in Omaha, Nebraska, founded in 1921. Baking is a family tradition that goes back five generations, and you can learn more about this dynamic family in this excerpt from Down Syndrome World magazine.
Carlos González Goes to Bat for Global Down Syndrome Foundation

Rockies star player will strut his stuff on the runway to support Down syndrome research and medical care at Global’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show on Saturday, October 24, 2015
Carlos Eduardo González (“CarGo”) is a Venezuelan-born professional baseball player who plays for the Colorado Rockies. A two-time All-Star, González is a former National League batting champion. In his eight years in the Majors, González has nearly 1,000 hits (978), a batting average of 290, and is a three- time Golden Glove winner as an outfielder.
This season he had nearly 100 RBIs (97) and a career-high of 40 home runs. González is known for his power, speed and arm-strength while playing the game. He is now adding to his athletic reputation by giving back to the community. Specifically, he has started a namesake foundation in 2014 called The Carlos González Foundation that benefits at-risk youth.
González is excited to be part of Global’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show, the largest single fundraiser for people with Down syndrome in the United States. Proceeds benefit Global’s affiliates – the Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome on the Anschutz Medical Campus and the Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

2 Be Beautiful Be Yourself Dancers to Perform in “Nutcracker”

For the first time, two children from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s Be Beautiful Be Yourself Dance Class will be on stage for the Colorado Ballet production of the holiday classic “Nutcracker,” to the delight of a huge audience.
The Colorado Ballet’s “Nutcracker” will feature performers with Down syndrome on Tuesday, Dec. 18, and Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, 1101 13th Street in Denver.
Eliza Richard, 10, will be part of the Dec. 18 “Nutcracker,” and Schuyler Kropp, 7, will take to the stage on Dec. 19. Both performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Eliza and Schuyler will be partyers who go out on the stage with other children and adults as they celebrate the season.

The Colorado Ballet is a partner with the Global Down Syndrome Foundation in the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Dance Class. The classes run for 10 weeks and teach ballet movement, music appreciation, rhythm and basic dance steps to children ages 5-14 who have Down syndrome.
