World Down Syndrome Day Celebration at the State Capitol

WHO: Global Down Syndrome Foundation (“Global”), self-advocates with Down syndrome and other organizations serving the differently-abled to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.
WHAT: Photo opportunity with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper: People with Down syndrome, their families and supporters from across Colorado will gather on the West Steps of the Colorado Capitol in honor of World Down Syndrome Day.
WHEN: Monday, March 9, 2015 – 9:30am to 11am
WHERE: West Steps, Colorado State Capitol, 200 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80203
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:Anyone who cares about people with Down syndrome or people who are differently-abled. Anyone who is passionate about human and civil rights. Anyone who is invested in a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and believes that research and medical care can significantly improve quality of life.
BACKGROUND: World Down Syndrome Day started on March 21, 2006, in Singapore. The date, 3/21, represents the 3 copies of chromosome 21 which lead to Down syndrome. World Down Syndrome Day has developed into a movement that both celebrates and values people with Down syndrome around the world, which is evidenced by United Nations recognizing WDSD in 2011.
