Love for Tennis: Exhibition to Feature Kids with Down Syndrome

September 14th, 2012 by Global Down Syndrome Foundation

Spectators at this year’s Colorado State Open tennis tournament will have something extra to root for this weekend. Between the two men’s semifinal matches Saturday morning, about a half-dozen children with Down syndrome will show off their tennis skills on Court One of the Gates Tennis Center in Denver.

The exhibition is a preview of the new Global Down Syndrome Foundation Dare to Play Tennis Camp, which will take place over four weeks in the summer of 2013 in partnership with the Gates Tennis Center.

On hand with the differently-abled children will be Taylor Dent, a retired professional tennis player formerly ranked in the top 25 in the world.

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation is a nonprofit partner of the Colorado State Open tournament.

The Dare to Play Tennis Camp will be the latest camp for people with Down syndrome run by the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, in addition to the Dare to Play Football Camps, the Dare to Play Soccer Camps, the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders Dare to Cheer Camp, the Dare to Move with Pure Barre Class and the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Dance Class.

The tennis exhibition will begin at approximately 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, depending on the length of the first men’s semifinal match. Gates Tennis Center is at 3300 E. Bayaud Ave. in Denver.

People who want to see the exhibition can get in for free by mentioning “Global Down Syndrome Foundation” at the gate.

Come out and cheer on some amazing kids!
