World Down Syndrome Day

Since 2013 Global has organized self-advocates and their families for a photo on the steps of the Colorado Capitol, with Governor John Hickenlooper as a show of unity and support for improving the lives of people with Down syndrome.

Every year the Global Down Syndrome Foundation organizes a World Down Syndrome Day celebration at Children’s Hospital Colorado in conjunction with the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome and the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome. At the event, Global awarded Connor Long and Anna M. Sie with the Global Down Syndrome Foundation Community Leadership Award.

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation, the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome and the Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Hospital Colorado organized their annual World Down Syndrome Day Celebration at the hospital’s main atrium on March 21st, 2014. At the event, Global awarded Jay Mills and Beth Burczyk with the Global Down Syndrome Foundation Community Leadership Award. “The Ransom Notes,” a family bluegrass band, played an amazing set! And Global announced its international campaign “Down Syndrome’s Got Muscle”.

Down syndrome awareness has been celebrated on March 21 in several countries by various Down syndrome organizations. March 21 (3/21) is a representation or a symbol of the genetic make-up of Down syndrome – three copies of chromosome 21 instead of two.
