Overview
This informative GLOBAL Webinar discussed perceptual consequences of hearing loss, how it is often overlooked in people with Down syndrome, and how it can impact developmental and educational outcomes. It also explored current knowledge about hearing loss in individuals with Down syndrome of all ages, including recommendations for monitoring and diagnosis. Finally, Dr. Porter reviewed new findings from federally funded research projects dedicated to improving hearing and balance healthcare and outcomes for individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan
The webinar attracted over 250 registrants from 40 states and 9 countries (Represented- Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Spain, Pakistan and United Kingdom).

Heather Porter, AuD, PhD, CCC-A
Dr. Porter is a research scientist and clinical audiologist at Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned clinical and research doctorates from Vanderbilt University, where she first began researching hearing in individuals with Down syndrome.
In addition to ongoing federally funded translational research to improve hearing healthcare and outcomes in individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan, she has maintained practical immersion in clinical settings providing hearing healthcare to individuals with complex medical histories and diverse developmental abilities.
