Supporting Communication Development in Children with Down Syndrome: Partnering with your Pediatrician


Overview

This informative GLOBAL Webinar discussed key medical and developmental factors to be aware of that can impact a child’s ability to communicate in the early years; the right questions families need to ask their pediatrician to properly monitor their child’s development; and simple strategies for families to support language development in the home.

The webinar attracted 200 registrants from 36 states and 19 countries (Australia, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Germany, Guatemala, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda and United Kingdom).

Noemi Spinazzi, MD

Noemi Spinazzi, MD is a pediatrician in the Special Needs Primary Care practice and the director of the Down Syndrome Center of Excellence at Children’s Specialized Hospital. She was previously the medical director of Charlie’s Clinic, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Down syndrome program. Dr. Spinazzi has participated in multiple research endeavors focused on Down syndrome, developmental disabilities and equitable care.

She is on the board for the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC) and serves on multiple committees for the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group (DSMIG). She received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed her residency at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
