The Congressional Task Force on Down Syndrome is a bipartisan group of federal Senators and Representatives who work together to support the interests of the Down syndrome community. The Global Down Syndrome Foundation works closely with members of the Task Force to make sure that our community’s voices are heard in Congress.

History of the Task Force
The Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus was founded in May 2008 by Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) along with co-chairs former Representative Pete Sessions (R-TX), former Representative Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) to educate members of Congress and their staff about Down syndrome and lead efforts to advance bipartisan public policy to help individuals with Down syndrome. In 2015, the Caucus expanded to include Senators and was reestablished as the Congressional Task Force on Down Syndrome. Today, the following Representatives and Senators serve as co-chairs:

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation works closely with members of Congress to ensure that the needs and priorities of people with Down syndrome are addressed in federal legislation. Many members of Congress have demonstrated their commitment to the Down syndrome community by joining the Congressional Task Force on Down Syndrome. If your Senator or Representative isn’t a member, you can help by asking them to join.
How to ask your Senator or Representative to join the Congressional Task Force on Down Syndrome:
1) Start with this sample letter. Feel free to personalize it and write why its important for you to have your Senator or Representative join the Task Force.
2) Look up your Senator or Representative:
Senators: click here to look up your Senators by their names or your state. Click on the contact link that appears by their name in the search results.
Representatives: click here put in your zip code to find your Representative’s name. Click on the small envelope icon below their name ( ) to access their email address or contact page.
3) Send in your letter! When you use the above steps to look up your Senator or Representative, the links will take you to a page with an email address or a contact page. Copy your personalized letter into an email or into the contact field and send it in to make your voice heard!
The Global Down Syndrome Foundation works closely with members of Congress to advocate for people with Down syndrome. If you would like to be involved in our congressional advocacy work, there are lots of ways to get involved.
How can I join GLOBAL’s congressional advocacy efforts?
1) If your Senator or Representative isn’t a member of the Congressional Task Force on Down Syndrome, ask them to join.
2) Sign up to receive updates about legislation that impacts people with Down syndrome.
