Down Syndrome Program

Affiliation: Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV
Summary: The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV Down Syndrome Program was established to meet the healthcare needs of members of our community with Down syndrome, the most common identifiable cause of intellectual disability. People with intellectual disabilities experience greater obstacles in attaining their full health potential. They receive lower rates of preventative health care services like blood pressure checks, cholesterol tests, and diabetes screenings despite being at higher risk for chronic medical conditions.

Our program encompasses a research collaboration with the UNLV Department of Physical Therapy. Education is central to everything we do, from training the next generation of doctors to providing patients and their families with vital health information. Everyone is involved, including our undergraduates at UNLV and medical students at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, in carrying out our mission.

In brief, we offer educational resources and research opportunities, with clinical services starting in the near future.
